You must be hearing a lot about the recent Kroger Jewel Lawsuit in the headlines because it has famous personalities and companies involved, like Jewel, Trevor Drinkwater, and Kroger. And just to brief you in this case, it is actually Jewel and Trevor who are suing Kroger because they claim that they were the ones to start out the wellness festival from scratch and now Kroger is cutting them out of the contract.
How Did This Whole Thing Start?
If you truly want to know about this case in depth, well, for just that let us go back to the year 2018. See, back then, Jewel and Trevor had only one idea in their minds: to put together a wellness festival that would motivate people to live healthier lives. Those days actually, since Kroger was looking for ways to promote more health-related products, the partnership was a perfect fit. The partnership was not backed up by a big formal contract, you know, just emails that spoke about the collaboration for five years.
It was all going great the next few years, and just in 2021, the event was making good profits. However, in 2022, Kroger dropped the bomb that they wanted to be in full control of the situation. They informed Jewel and Trevor that they didn’t require their services anymore and that they had replaced them with a different company. And then, of course, Jewel wrote an email to Kroger’s CEO inquiring whether the festival was really being taken away from them. And just a little after this, this whole matter ended up in court and became a big thing in the headlines.
What Are Jewel and Trevor Asking For?
See, if you read their story, you’ll know that they’re the ones who took the festival from zero to a very successful state over the course of several years and that they used about $2 million of their own money for the investment. This is how it all got super successful, which was built from scratch. After the festival had made money for the first time, it is said that Kroger removed them and gave the control to a different company, which is said to be the sister of a Kroger executive.
Jewel and Trevor, therefore, are filing a lawsuit claiming that their income was decreased by quite literally millions. They’re even saying that there was a contract between them, like a five-year agreement, which was established by the email exchanges. Not official, but it is all there in the email conversations.
Now Let’s Talk About Kroger’s CEO (Rodney McMullen)
And now talk about something that heated up this case even more. Like, you already know it was a court case, and in the middle of it, in March 2025, Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s CEO, decided to leave his position abruptly. Why? Well, so far we know that the firm stated that he left because of his ‘personal conduct’ which ‘was not in line with the company’s values’. Basically, a scuffle occurred at the back, and they are not telling the pieces.
And that wasn’t it, though, see, when he departed, he was required to forfeit about $11 million of his stock and bonuses. Yup, $11 million that is.
Is the CEO’s Exit Connected to the Lawsuit?
In the lawsuit, McMullen is not a defendant; however, he is mentioned as a witness, and, well, when the attorneys of Jewel questioned him about the actual motive of his abrupt departure, his team sought to prevent such inquiries on the grounds that they were not related and would cause him embarrassment. What kind, though? Well, just like that, the court judge had a different opinion.
In August 2025, a judge asked him to put in writing the reasons for his resignation. Though there has been progress in this case, at the moment, the real cause of his departure is still being kept under wraps.
